The islands
The Borromean Islands offer numerous attractions. Isola Bella, seen on the picture,
presents a beautiful palace to visit with its famous gardens, the terraces with
blossoming azalea’s, rododendro’s and camelia’s. L’ Isola
Superiore “dei Pescatori” constitutes an onforgettable impression
of hospitality with its typical alleys which are covered with little round stones,
with the houses that lean one to the other, with the little harbour and the nets
hanging in the sun.
Infact the islands were visit trough out the centuries by intellectuals, poets,
writers and they were portrait painted. For the palaces of Isola Bella and Isola
Madre famous international architects came over and numerous gardeners were working
there for decades to create an authentic Eden from rocks laying in the water:
the fertile grond was also brought from the coast.
